Prof. Beatrix Grubeck-Loebenstein

Dr. Grubeck-Loebenstein is Director of the Institute for Biomedical Aging Research of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Innsbruck and Head of the Immunology Group. The main research goal of the Institute for Biomedical Aging Research is better to understand the basic molecular aspects of the cellular aging process and the age-related diseases that limit the lifespan and quality of life of elderly people. The priority of the Immunology Division is to find new ways to prevent immune system (especially T cell) function from declining as a person grows older and to optimize vaccinations in elderly people.

Dr. Grubeck-Loebenstein is also an Associate Professor of Pathophysiology at the Medical University of Innsbruck and a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the Medical University of Vienna. From 1998 to 2010 she was a member of the vaccination committee of the Austrian Supreme Health Authority. She is also a member of the Senate of the Christian Doppler Research Association as well as of the Scientific Board of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF). She has been a partner in 8 projects funded by the European Commission in FP5, 6 and 7 (in one project as coordinator, in 3 as member of the steering committee).  

Dr. Grubeck-Loebenstein received her medical doctoral degree from the Medical University of Vienna. She received her internal medicine training at the Medical University of Vienna and her training in Basic Immunology at Prof. Marc Feldmann’s laboratory at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, London, UK.

Dr. Grubeck-Loebenstein has authored and/or coauthored more than 200 research papers and book chapters and is an editorial board member of several scientific journals.
