Donata Medaglini is Professor of Microbiology, Head of the Laboratory of Microbial Immunity in the Department of Medical Biotechnology and Vice-Rector for Life Sciences at the University of Siena. She is the Vice-President of the Sclavo Vaccines Association, DM is the Italian Representative in the H2020 Programme Committee on “Nanotechnologies, Advanced Materials, Biotechnology, Advanced Manufacturing and Processing”. Her research activity is in the field of microbiology, mucosal immunology, vaccines and advanced immunization technologies. She is author/co-author of several publications in international peer-reviewed journals. She is the Scientific Coordinator of the High Impact project “Advanced Immunization Technologies” (ADITEC) supported by EU DG Research and Innovation. She is also the Coordinator of the VSV-EBOVAC project on “Vaccine safety and immunogenicity signatures of human responses to VSV-ZEBOV” and Managing Entitiy Coordinator of the project “Standardization and development of assays for assessment of influenza vaccine correlates of protection”, supported by the Innovative Medicine Initiative (IMI).
She holds a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Genova. From 1992-1994 she was Research Associate in the Laboratory of Bacterial Pathogenesis and Immunology at The Rockefeller University (New York). From 1996 till 2001 she was non-tenured Professor of Microbiology at the University of Siena. In 2001-2003 she was National Expert at the European Commission, DG Research and Innovation. Since 2003 is Professor of Microbiology at the University of Siena.
